Small brick houses, steep stairs
East York was its own borough until the 1998 amalgamation. Much of it was built out in the 1930s and 40s with small brick bungalows and semis. Streets off Cosburn, Mortimer and O'Connor are lined with them. Along the Danforth, from Broadview out past Pape and Greenwood, the houses are older semis and detached homes. Many have a shared driveway or a narrow side path instead of a garage.
Basement stairs in these houses are steep and narrow, often with a tight turn at the bottom. Low ceilings and old bulkheads turn a sectional or a dresser into a two-person puzzle. Leaside, Thorncliffe Park and the towers
Leaside, on the west side of the old borough, has larger brick homes, many of them renovated or rebuilt, and renovation leftovers are common there. Thorncliffe Park and Crescent Town are apartment towers, and those run like any condo job: booked elevator, protected corridor, carry-out from the unit.

Laneways, shared drives and parking
Some streets near the Danforth have rear laneways with garages behind the houses. Many do not, and there the truck parks out front and everything is carried along the side of the house. Parking can be tight near the Line 2 stations, so we pick the loading spot before we arrive.
What changes an East York price
Volume comes first: how much of the truck the load fills, not how many items you counted. Item type is next, because a few things, mattresses among them, carry a disposal surcharge. Then access. A Leaside driveway load and a Thorncliffe Park tower unit can be the same volume and very different amounts of carrying. Your deadline matters too.

The City pickup, honestly
Houses here are on City of Toronto curbside collection. The free oversized-item pickup is worth using if you can get the item to the curb and wait for collection day. It won't carry anything up a basement staircase, and it doesn't take renovation debris. Towers on private collection generally aren't covered. What we don't take
A few things aren't ours to haul, and we'd rather say so before you book than at your door. If your photos show something on that list, we tell you when we quote and point you to who handles it. A former tenant's belongings are one example: we take those jobs only when the paperwork under Ontario's Residential Tenancies Act is in order.
