Why the stairs set the price
In a basement job, most of the time goes into carrying, not loading. Toronto basements often have steep, narrow stairs with a turn at the bottom, low ceilings and ductwork bulkheads. Some older houses have a separate side entrance. A walkout basement is the easy case.
That's why we ask for a photo of the staircase and the way out. It lets us plan the crew and build the carry time into your flat price. The price doesn't grow on the day because the stairs turned out to be steep.
What's usually down there
A basement that has been filling for years holds a bit of everything. Old couches and beds, a treadmill, boxes of papers and toys, paint cans, a bar fridge. Often there is shelving that has been there since the house was built. Damp cardboard is common and tears when it's lifted, so mention it when you send photos.
Small sealed amounts of paint and household chemicals can be routed to the right depot. Surface-damaged boxes and furniture are fine. If your photos suggest a real mould problem, we flag it, because that needs remediation before removal. If your old water heater is a rental, it belongs to the rental company, so call them to take it back.
Basement suites and full clearouts

Why this page exists
The staircase photo is the trick. Carry time is what blows up basement quotes, so we price it from the start. We don't "discover" it at your house like the franchises do.

- The basement has mould-damaged boxes — can you take them?
- Surface-damaged household goods, yes. If we see signs of a larger mould problem in your photos, we'll flag it honestly. Remediation comes before removal.
- Is a basement more expensive than a garage?
- Usually, for one honest reason: carry time. The staircase is priced into your flat quote from the photos, not added at the door.
- Do I need to sort the basement before you come?
- No. Show us what stays and we take everything else. Sorting for donation, recycling and disposal happens at the trailer as we load.
- Can you take an old furnace or water heater?
- Yes, once a licensed gas technician has disconnected it. Our crew never disconnects gas appliances. If the water heater is a rental, call the rental company instead, because the tank belongs to them.
