Fridges, freezers and refrigerant (Freon)
Fridges, freezers, window air conditioners and dehumidifiers all hold refrigerant, often called Freon. It can't be cut out or let out into the air. A certified technician has to recover it before the unit is scrapped for its metal, and that step has a cost.
Our part is the haul. Refrigerant units go to a certified handler for recovery, then the metal goes to recycling. When you send photos, tell us which units are fridges, freezers or air conditioners. We confirm the plan for each one with your flat price, so you know before booking where it goes and that recovery is covered.
Getting it out of the house
Appliances are heavy, and the hard part is usually the route out. A fridge coming up from a basement, a stacked washer and dryer in a condo closet, or a range wedged between counters all take planning. Send a photo of the appliance where it sits and one of the stairs, hallway or elevator it has to pass.
We dolly it out with floor protection down. In a condo we book the service elevator. Before we arrive, the appliance should be unplugged and emptied. Gas ranges, gas dryers and anything plumbed in must be disconnected by a professional first.
Working appliances and scrap metal
Most old appliances end up as scrap steel, which gets recycled. If yours works and is clean and fairly recent, reuse may be possible. Send a photo and we'll tell you honestly whether it has a chance. Either way, the metal is recycled rather than landfilled.
We pick up appliances across Toronto, Mississauga and the rest of the GTA. One unit is fine. Replacing a whole kitchen? Photograph everything together and it is one flat price. Bigger mixed loads fall under our general junk removal service.
Why this page exists
Freon-bearing appliances legally require refrigerant recovery before scrapping. That is why a fridge is never a "free scrap pickup". We price it correctly and route it correctly.

- Does the appliance need to be disconnected first?
- Yes. Please have appliances unplugged, and gas or water lines professionally disconnected, before we arrive. We handle everything from there.
- What happens to the fridge after pickup?
- Refrigerant is recovered by a certified handler, then the unit is scrapped for metal recycling.
- Do you take fridges and freezers that still have Freon in them?
- Yes. We haul them and route them to a certified handler, who recovers the refrigerant before the unit is scrapped. The recovery cost is inside the flat price you approve.
- Can I drain the Freon myself to save money?
- Please don't. Refrigerant is not allowed to be released into the air, and recovering it takes proper equipment and a certified technician. Leave the unit sealed and we'll route it correctly.
- Do you take air conditioners and dehumidifiers?
- Yes. Window and portable air conditioners and dehumidifiers hold refrigerant too, so they are routed for recovery the same way a fridge is. A central air unit that is still connected needs an HVAC technician to disconnect it first.
